The Green Loch. Sitting deep within the Glenmore Forest in the Cairngorms National Park is this little gem, The Green Loch - so-called due to its unusually deep and vivid turquoise colour. Most maps and information boards use the Gaelic name 'An Lochan Uaine' which translates literally as the Green Lochan, but more commonly referred to.

The Green Loch is found in Glenmore Forest, not too far from Loch Morlich in the Cairngorms National Park. It feels remote but the closest town to the Green Loch, Aviemore, is only a 15 minute drive away. The easiest place to park is the Glenmore Visitor Centre where you can take this circular trail through the woods to An Lochan Uaine.

A great spot to relax and soak in some beautiful scenery, the Green Lochan is easily accessible with a short walk from the car park at Glenmore Visitor Centre (Aviemore PH22 1QU) or at Allt Mor.

Parking: The Allt Mor Car Park, located in the Glenmore Forest Park. From Aviemore, follow the A95 to the Glenmore Forest Park. Turn left onto the B970 and follow the signs for the Allt Mor Car Park. The Green Loch Aviemore is located deep within the Glenmore Forest in the Cairngorms National Park. The extraordinarily deep and brilliant turquoise colour of this lake inspired its name. The green is supposed to be a result of algae in the water. Rather than having a stream in and out, it looks to be a bowl where water has gathered.
